Smart Updates and Upcoming

Choose title update schedules and see estimated chapter dates in a calendar.

Smart Updates uses past chapter dates to decide when a source title is likely to update. Upcoming shows these estimates in a calendar. An estimate is not a confirmed release date.

Turn On Smart Updates

Open Settings → Source Updates and turn on Smart Updates. The Check for Updates in Background control enables background checks.

Smart Updates can wait until a title is likely to update instead of checking it at every regular interval. Automatic scheduling still checks eligible titles at least weekly. Server-hosted sources use the regular interval. Your update filters and skip conditions still apply.

Your device controls when background work runs. An eligible check time does not promise that the app will run at that exact time.

Choose a Title’s Schedule

  1. Open a source-library title’s chapter list.
  2. Open its ellipsis menu and select Update Schedule.
  3. Choose Automatic, Regular Checks, or Custom Interval.
  4. Select Save.
  • Automatic uses the estimated update day when one is available.
  • Regular Checks uses the regular background interval.
  • Custom Interval waits the chosen number of days after the last successful check.

These schedule choices take effect while Smart Updates is on. The sheet also shows check history and the next eligible check. Use Check Now to request a check without waiting for the schedule. If another check is running, wait for it to finish and try again.

Use the Upcoming Calendar

Open Upcoming in Activity, or from the iPad sidebar. Select a day to see titles expected around that date. Select Today to return to the current day.

The other sections explain titles with no useful date.

  • Due and Overdue shows titles whose expected dates or checks have passed.
  • Unknown Schedule shows titles without a usable release pattern.
  • Not Checked Automatically shows titles excluded by update preferences.

Upcoming uses saved chapter and schedule data. Opening the calendar does not check sources for new chapters. Use Updates to see chapters that were actually found.

Refresh Title Details

Turn on Refresh Metadata in Settings → Source Updates to refresh a checked title’s details as well as its chapters. This is separate from local-library metadata matching.
